Band NewsDrum Major Auditions Held on April 10 for the 2001-2002 Marching SeasonMr. André, Miss Laubmeier, and Alexa Overby conducted the Drum Major auditions for the 2001-2002 marching season on April 10. All 13 participants were excellent; in fact, Mr. André said that this was the best group of people trying out he's seen. Of the people who auditioned, Robert Paveza and Julie Kranzberg were selected to join Christina Wolfe for a 3-member drum major squad for the upcoming season. Congratulations and good luck!On a side note, the band web site would like to apologize for misspelling Mrs. Terri Hovis' first name as "Terry" on the Band Boosters section of the page. It won't happen again! We love you Terri!!!MHS Band Web Site Announces an Alumni Organization Web PageThe Band Web Site will be providing services to the Band Alumni. Plans have been made, but to this point, there has been nothing unveiled. Keep watching the site for an update!Mesquite Hosts the Second Annual Pageant of BandsThursday, March 8th, Mesquite High School hosted the second annual Pageant of Bands and Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser, at which concert and jazz groups from Greenfield and Mesquite Jr. Highs, as well as the MHS concert and jazz groups. The showing was excellent and the spaghetti dinner fed nearly 1,000 people!
The Bands at AreaSaturday, March 3rd, the Wildcat Bands and Symphony competed at Dobson High School in the ABODA Area Concert Festival. The Wind Ensemble earned a Superior, qualifying for State, and the Symphonic and Concert Bands received Excellent (II+) ratings. Symphonic Band also qualified for State.Upset at State!Saturday, November 18, the Wildcat Marching Band competed for the first time at the Division I State Contest, and, despite an outstanding performance, received an Excellent (II) rating with no captions. This concludes the competitive season for the Wildcat Marching Band's 2000-2001 year.Gilbert Schools Dominate at Marcos!The Wildcat Marching Band and the Gilbert HS Marching Pride competed Saturday, November 14, at Marcos de Niza High School in Tempe. The Wildcats got a Superior, with captions for drum major, drumline, music, and visual perfomance. They fiercly competed for entrance to the Fiesta Bowl Pageant of Bands competition in December 2001, but were beaten by Gilbert. It was still an awesome show! Great job Mesquite and we will get them next year!
